The Rules of Trash

Jill is standing in the kitchen at work.  She has just brought back some take out food from a local restaurant.  As she unpacks the food, a delicious cookie which she purchased rolls out of the sack and into the nearby wastebasket.  Jill was looking forward to eating the cookie more than anything else in her meal.

Is the cookie now trash?  Should Jill eat the cookie?

Of course, there are several additional facts which may affect your conclusion.  Or maybe you think the cookie is now trash and should be disregarded.  Nevertheless, several hypos follow:

The Road Home

What HUD is doing to compensate homeowners who lost their homes in Katrina.

Interesting website.

rebuilding baghdad, one shop at a time.

TheCamel held a business meeting a few weeks ago, which seems to have gone pretty well.. In the past, they've only had a handful of people show up, but this time they had over 50, including the local religious leaders (important b/c Muslim law says you can't owe anyone money, so if you want to take out a business loan, you have to get permission from the Mosque), and 3 women...

There goes your SUV

Jodwards: Americans should sacrifice their SUVs

Hmmm...accompanied by suitable libations to Zeus, I hope.

Seriously, who wants to bet on the weight of the vehicle that Edwards arrived at the event in? I'm going to bet, oh...6,000 lbs.

mmmm....tasty mutants

Useful Mutants, Bred With Radiation - New York Times.

Call for a Draft?

This war on the jihadists needs to be more discomforting to the average American than just bad news on the tube. Democracies at war abroad cannot wage a protracted ground operation when the only people who are sacrificing are those who choose to go. This is the greatest lesson of my generation. Young Americans: you may not want to kill jihadists, but they are interested in killing you and your loved ones. Wake up.

"What do you think about that?"

I'm not sure what to make of this, but reading this article requires perceptions and assumptions to make any sense. Perceptions or assumptions of what, I'm not exactly sure, other than being Belgian. That is the gist of the story, right? Being Belgian is bad?

Home sales surprise

This is odd: Triad Sales up : Triangle Sales down

I also note that the former article says that Triangle sales are "up 3%." Perhaps that's a month-to-month comparison, rather than a year-to-year? Lots of ways to play with the numbers.

However, this is the biggest negative story on home sales in the Triangle that I have yet seen, especially considering how impervious it has so far seemed to the national trend...

Vichael Mick's True Wrongdoing?

"We don't say anything about people shooting deers and shooting other animals, you know what I mean? From what I hear, dogfighting is a sport. It's just behind closed doors and I think it's tough that we build Vichael Mick up and then we break him down ... I think he fell into a bad situation."  --Mephon Starbury
