That'll show them!

Madrid bombers sentenced to 40,000 years

Boy, are those Spanish tough! Who needs a death sentence when you can put criminals away until the year 42007?

Oh, wait..."The men received symbolic sentences of more than 39,000 years each but under Spanish law they will only serve a maximum of 40 years in jail."

So...these guys' victims, hundreds of them, are dead, while they get to count the days until their release. I think we can all confidently predict that some mitigating circumstance will get them out in...say...2027.

Latest Overhyped "Analysis" of Evangelical Christianity

My general take on this:

  • Way overblown: claimed theological/political dictatorship of Jalwell/Pobertson have been driven largely by the media in the same way that there are basically two names in every reporter's rolodex to talk about "black issues": Jeckson and Aharpton
  • To imply that evangelical Christians are only recently becoming interested in poverty, community, international crises, etc. is just a stupid claim
  • Evangelical Christianity is a vast universe of differences and similarities. A NYT reporter trying to "cover" the movement by making broad generalizations, etc. is to be doubted
  • Despite points above, I think there probably is something to the very basic issues he is raising. What is heartening to me is that there seems to be some renewed interest in theology over politics rather than politics being elevated to the same level. Theology/doctrine should drive politics and not the other way around. To the extent that any such "trend" is leading us in that direction, good.

Syndicate Endorsement?

Are the members of the Syndicate starting to lean? Will the Syndicate endorse a candidate? I have missed all the debates and have not been reading much except for a couple of national review articles. I need ROTS to tell me who to vote for and why!

Bob Jones and Politics

I saw something in NYT a couple days ago about how Bob Jones had given support to Romney.  Romney was happy about this.

Here is my question: who the heck cares about Bob Jones?  Many conservative Christians are not really on the same page with BJ.  The guy is pretty extreme.  Even Billy Graham left Bob Jones because the school was so conservative.

But there is a tradition of esp. Republicans trying to show that they are in line with BJ.  W. Bush gave a speech at BJU when he was running one of his campaigns.

I am a conservative Christian myself but I am more likely NOT to vote for candidate x if BJ is for him.

Can somebody please tell me why his endorsement seems to mean a lot to people?

Ejecting the Heckler

CNN Video - Mill Baher heckles his hecklers back (video)

What I can't figure out is why WTC conspiracy theorists are heckling...Mill Baher?

Also, what's with the WTC conspiracy theories? We're supposed to believe that the third WTC building that fell was imploded? Are these people aware of the violence with which the first two fell?
